Schedule April 27th & 28th

Hi, I’m Alison and I’ll be your host.

My heart calls out to work with film. I don’t just love photographing with it, I crave it. I have been photographing my family solely on film for years and clients for a while now. I will never turn back to digital. Analog film photography has a unique and timeless beauty that is hard to replicate with digital photography. Analog film wants to be played with, to break the rules, to partner with the creative process. Film is magic. Film is slow. Film is presence. Film is art.

There is a reason why analog film is making a comeback. We are all tired of fake. In an instant consumption world, our souls are craving real. Tangability, authenticity, truth. When the shutter is pressed on that vintage camera, a real moment is captured on a truly present object… FILM. Learning to shoot with film creates an experience that let’s you sink in to the artistc process. Whether you are wanting to add film to your artistic tool box or add it to the client experience, this workshop will elevate your photography.

FAQs

What is the difference between an instructor and a student place?

I believe that we can all learn something from each other. This workshop aims to give those who have mastered a creative/technical skill the opportunity to share it (Instructor). And for those who are ready to soak it all in come eager to learn (Students).

What do you mean by Choose-Your-Own-workshop payment Format?

Each photographer has unique educational needs, time constraints, and budgets. The flexibility of the Analog Artist this year allows you to choose to stay in the home we are meeting at or find your own accommodations. Also, the option to choose an instructor or student place also adds to the customization of your workshop experience.

How do I take an Instructor Place?

If you would like to take an instructor place at the Analog Artist with its accompanying discount, the only thing you have to do is teach a 30-minute class on something to do with film. You can do this in your own unique way. With slides or without. With handouts or without. However, being an instructor will open you up to questions and casual discussion across the retreat, following on from your topic of sharing. There are no restrictions to enrolments for the teacher places but it would be best for all of the teachers to have a well-thought-out presentation of a technique or experience to share and are decently experienced shooters. If you are enrolling as an instructor, you will need to describe two topics that you would be comfortable sharing during the retreat AT CHECKOUT, to help me allow space for a variety of subject matter. *There are limited instructor spots.

Explain more about being a Student at the Analog Artist.

To be a student simply means to come as you are ready to learn. The best photographers are always learning, and continue to need to be, both teacher and student, across different stages of life. Something that I try to embody is that learning is a continual journey. Coming to recognize these stages is a skill in itself.
